When this distinguished military service member contacted Designs by Ebony to remodel her newly purchased home in Yorktown, VA she knew exactly what she wanted. The busy mom of two wanted a safe home for her young children to play in while also wanting to transform the space into a sleek, sexy, and sophisticated area fit to entertain her adult friends and family.
For this remodel DBE teamed up with Mares Contracting to make this homeowner’s dreams a reality. While our homeowner was away on duty, serving our country, and protecting our freedom, we started our transformation on her home. Our team took this builder grade first floor and added custom touches. We started in the foyer by removing the dated linoleum floors and replaced them with durable luxury vinyl planks that continued through the powder room, kitchen, and sunken family room. We continued our work in the powder room by replacing the plain vanity cabinet with a sleek stand-alone furniture style piece complete with a black granite top and modern chrome waterfall faucet. In addition to the vanity we also replaced the mirror, light fixture, and added a stylish toilet.
In the kitchen we removed the builder grade oak cabinets and replaced them with sophisticated espresso cabinets. We extended the length of the peninsula and added seating on the backside. The end of the peninsula was capped with a nice open bookcase. The end by the wall now boasts a handy hidden cabinet that can be used to hold miscellaneous items like chargers or baby bibs for easy access from the breakfast table side. The new cabinets are full of helpful storage features such as large pots/pans drawers, tray dividers, roll out shelves, (2) corner lazy susans, a wall mounted knick knack shelf, and a double trash pull-out conveniently located between the sink and range. By the refrigerator we added an open wall shelf for the microwave, and lattice wine rack, and even a wine cooler. To finish off the cabinets we added large pulls in a Polished Nickel finish.
All of the existing stainless appliances were in great condition so we were able to keep those and save money. The standard undercabinet hood was replaced by a sexy Zephyr chimney style hood with LED lights. Our skilled craftsman customized this modern hood to fit under the existing soffit. Clean white quartz countertops were added with a bookspine edge. For the sink we installed an undermount black onyx granite composite double bowl paired with a tall modern commercial look faucet in a black/stainless finish. To add more light to the kitchen we replaced the old ceiling mounted fluorescent fixture with a 52” LED energy saving light with a brushed stainless finish. The light in the breakfast area was replaced with an oil rubbed bronze fixture to add to the mood of the space. A jaw dropping all glass 3”x 6” backsplash was installed in a herringbone pattern to add that WOW factor.
In the adjoining family room, we removed the carpet and continued with the same luxury vinyl plank flooring as the kitchen and foyer. A new remote-controlled ceiling fan was added in an oil rubbed bronze finish. The oak trim, railing, crown molding, and beadboard all received a fresh coat of white paint. The brick fireplace was updated with a whitewash finish and a white painted mantel.
When our homeowner returned from duty she was blown away by her new sleek, sexy, and sophisticated first floor remodel. She loves her new space and enjoyed the ease of working with the Designs by Ebony-Mares Contracting team. Now she can’t wait to start on the 2nd floor bathrooms in phase two of her home transformation.
